About Aayam

Aayam — A Society for the Promotion of Culture

Aayam stands as a beacon for Indian cultural heritage, actively promoting fine arts across multiple dimensions for over two decades. Since its inception in 1997, Aayam has been dedicated to instilling a deep sense of cultural belonging, especially among children, by training them in the classical dance form of Bharatanatyam under the instruction of our founder, Guru Sindhu Mishra.

Our mission is to reach the Omega Point of Aesthetics—to reinterpret traditions and integrate all forms of art, creating a transformative experience across music, poetry, theatre, painting, dance, and social engagement. Aayam’s full-time dance company continues to create acclaimed works in Bharatanatyam and has been celebrated nationally for its unique approach to traditional forms.

Our Legacy in Bharatanatyam

Aayam has shaped some of India’s finest talents in Bharatanatyam, with many students earning the coveted National Scholarship from Centre For Cultural Resources And Training. One notable disciple, Shashrek Ambardar, also received the prestigious Bal Shree Award from the Hon’ble President of India. Our senior students perform across the country at eminent platforms, captivating audiences with Aayam’s unique choreographies.

Aayam believes in each student’s unique potential, striving to help them embody the art of Bharatanatyam while exploring new creative horizons.

Social Commitment

Aayam extends its commitment beyond the arts through social welfare initiatives, partnering with organizations like NDMC and the Delhi Commission for Women to host regular events. We see art as a bridge, fostering community engagement and addressing social issues.

A staunch advocate for the integrity of her art, she has been honored with the National Fellowship by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to advance creative work in Bharatanatyam. Her accomplishments include the Natya Ratna Award, presented by former President Sh. R. Our Methodology

Methodology

Our Methodology

At Aayam, we embrace the belief of our Guru, Smt. Sindhu Mishra, that Indian classical dance and music are more than just art forms—they are a sadhna, or meditative practice, that elevates the performer’s consciousness, fostering a union between the individual and the divine. This approach, rooted in tradition, forms the essence of our name, “Aayam,” symbolizing life’s multidimensional nature.

Through this philosophy, we aim to instill a deep appreciation for the classical arts in our students. Our methodology is designed not only to refine artistic skills but to enrich all dimensions of life, helping students thrive in art and beyond.
